Hi everyone! Today, I wanted to throw it back a little, and share some photos I took late last year for a story I worked on for Fusion. I got to interview the incredibly talented Conchita Pozar, and hear about how she is using the wisdom and artistry of her ancestors to organize her community. Conchita is from Michoachan, and is of Purépecha decent. She is also fluent in their almost extinct language!
I come from an organizing background, so it is always refreshing and inspiring to hear how other people organize their community to create positive change. While Conchita is an artist, she is also very passionate about expanding access to education, for her children and the other residents of North Shore. What's really exciting is that they are actually building a new school in North Shore very soon. Congrats to all the organizers who made this happen!
I believe the written word is only made that much more powerful with strong visual elements: Writing about her and her work was amazing, but look at all the incredible colors she surrounds herself with. Look at all that she has created with her hands!
Thank you for continuing to follow me on this colorful journey!
