Introducing Fitness Fridays!

Introducing Fitness Fridays!

Hi everyone! I am so excited to announce a new series on this blog: Introducing Fitness Fridays, brought to you by Universal Fitness Center!

Universal Fitness is where it all started for me. For a little bit of context, I joined Universal at the end of 2013. I signed up for their fitness classes, and stayed on for about a year. You can catch glimpses of my time there here, here, and here. Universal is where I got my fitness wings: I grew stronger, faster, and more determined. The photo below is from two years ago almost to the day!

While (for me) it wasn't about the physical transformation I experienced as a result of my workouts; it was absolutely about the mental one. Around the time I started working out at Universal all those years ago, I was also running pretty consistently. Universal gave me an edge, though - it made me hard, it made me fierce, and it made unapologetic about my strength, endurance, and power. For the first time (with Universal's help) I had become an athlete.

For most of my life, Athletic Esperanza was basically an oxymoron. Seriously. I was the chubby soccer player my coaches probably dreaded seeing. I was always put on Defense. I never scored a goal. While running changed that on an individual level for me, Universal finally made me part of a team, part of a fitness family.

I am so excited to be part of this family, again. While I am nervous, I know that I have to stop making excuses and start today. My body has been craving the adrenaline of high-intensity workouts. And I finally feel like I am ready. I don't want to call this a weight-loss journey. And I definitely don't expect to look like the photos above right away, or even ever.

I am taking this one step at a time. I am owning where I am (two years, and one baby later), and I am so excited to hurt through this process. There are few things I love more than sore muscles, or the feeling of complete exhaustion after an excellent workout.

Here's to all of the up's and down's that await me. Excited to go on this journey with you all! Wish me luck.

Xo
